Nose in a Book

I grew up with my nose in a book every chance I got.

My mother tells stories of me buried in a book when we went to my brother’s high school wrestling matches!

(I need to recapture this ability to tune out chaos!)

Ironically, my available time and desire to read took a back seat in my adulthood to professional reading and just wanting to go to bed early!

Revisiting my love of reading after years of teaching has been a joy! And having a dedicated space for it has reignited that passion. There’s something truly comforting about having the perfect place where I can nestle into a comfortable chair, surrounded by soft pillows and warm blankets, and simply relax.

It’s my sanctuary, where I can unwind, recharge, and find solace in the captivating worlds within the pages of my favorite novels and home-decorating books.

Reading Nook Ideas for Your Bedroom

Whether a reading corner, a window seat, or just a small space beside your bed, give yourself the gift of your own reading space. And set yourself up for success with these ideas for a comfortable reading nook!

Find a Corner: Begin by scouting out the perfect cozy nook in your bedroom where you can establish your reading nook. Look for a spot that’s quiet and away from distractions, ideally near a window with plenty of natural light. Aa cozy alcove will work too!

This corner will become your personal haven, so take your time to find the perfect spot that feels just right.

Comfortable Chair: Investing in a comfy chair is essential for long hours of reading enjoyment. Choose a chair with plush cushions and supportive armrests so you can “plop” into it with ease. Consider factors like size, shape, and upholstery material when choosing a chair. Not only will it look inviting but it also will provide optimal comfort for extended reading sessions. No straight backs and itchy fabric!

Think beyond the usual chair and consider a hanging chair, a chaise lounge chair, or even an inviting pile of floor cushions!

Ottoman: For added comfort and versatility, consider including an ottoman or pouf in your reading nook setup. An ottoman serves as a footrest where you can prop up your feet while lounging in your chair. Or, it can double as a resting place for a tray of snacks or to hold your next line up of books! Create a Zone with Rugs: Define your reading nook area by adding a rug to define the area and create a cozy and inviting space. Not only will it beautify your reading area, but it will also be nice for bare feet!

Layer Textiles: Enhance the comfort and warmth of your reading chair by layering textiles. A plush throw pillow and cozy blankets…nothing is cozier!

Reading Glasses Caddy: I am never very far away from my readers! In fact, I like to have a bowl of them near my cozy little reading nook. 

Keep your reading glasses organized and within easy reach in a stylish caddy placed on your side table. Choose a container that holds your glasses and other small essentials like bookmarks or pens. Having a designated spot for your reading glasses allows you to always have your readers handy!

Decorate with Books: What better way to decorate your bedroom corner than with books! 

Play with different book arrangements…vertical, horizontal, or a little of both. Display with the book jackets or with the jackets removed and the spines facing the opposite direction. Or, change out the book jackets completely by wrapping your books with attractive wallpaper.

Want some music? Some people prefer to read in silence. Others like to have music playing in the background while reading. I think music is the perfect addition to the perfect reading nook.
