Turn A Bedroom Into a Holiday Hide-Away
The holidays are fast approaching, and I couldn’t be more excited to transform our upstairs bedroom into a cozy retreat full of Christmas spirit. This bedroom used to belong to one of my twin daughters, and she’s coming home for the holiday season!
While she loves her teeny tiny “hustle-bustle” New York City apartment, I want to give her a warm, peaceful space to relax in during her visit.
She has lived with all of this equipment in her bedroom. This would stress me out!
What better way to do that than by turning her old room into a magical, cozy Christmas bedroom?
This is her old bedroom with a different bed frame and bright, colorful Christmas decor.
Cute, festive, jolly. But guess what? This is NOT her vibe!
So I’m going to decorate the room for HER with colors that she loves and finds relaxing.
If you’re also looking for cozy Christmas bedroom ideas, you’re in the right place! I’m using a mix of simple Christmas bedroom décor ideas, festive Christmas decorations, and a cozy, comfy color palette to bring this bedroom to life.
And the best part? These ideas can work in any bedroom—whether you’re decorating your own or a guest bedroom to welcome family or friends. Here’s how I’m decking the beds and making this space feel cozy and full of festive cheer!

Cozy Bedroom Ideas for the Christmas Holiday
Cozy does not need to be complicated. So let’s keep it simple.
These easy ideas will just take a few minutes to turn any bedroom into a holiday haven!
Start with Christmas Bedding
The first thing to think about when creating a cozy bedroom is the bedding. Nothing says holiday spirit like cozy Christmas bedding. And layers are the key!
I like to incorporate all of the following into any bedroom, but especially one decorated for Christmas!
- Plush Mattress Topper – Add a layer of softness and support.
- High-Quality Sheets – Opt for flannel, cotton, or linen for a warm, breathable feel.
- Down or Down-Alternative Comforter – Choose a fluffy comforter to add warmth and volume.
- Quilt or Coverlet – A textured coverlet adds an extra cozy layer and a luxe look.
- Chunky Knit Throw Blanket – Drape a warm, stylish throw at the foot of the bed.
- Layered Throw Pillows – Use different sizes and textures for plush, inviting comfort.
- Euro Shams and Pillows – Place larger pillows in the back for added depth and support.
I swapped out the regular white bedding for a more seasonal look, opting for a soft velvet duvet in a rich hunter green. It does not blatantly scream “Christmas!” but rather gives the bed a cozy, luxe feel.
It’s a simple way to add warmth and texture to the space, instantly transforming the room into “Cozy Christmas Central!”
I added a chunky knit throw and some soft, seasonal throw pillows. The layered bedding not only gives the room a cozy feel but also adds texture and beautiful color.
Then I found this beautiful Christmas pine cone pillow in the perfect shade of green to match the coverlet.
For a simple look, mix and match neutral bedding with a couple of holiday accents—this keeps the space cozy without feeling overdone.
Add a Christmas Tree
One of my favorite ways to bring the magic of Christmas into a bedroom is by adding a small Christmas tree.
Given the limited space, I used a narrow pencil tree to bring in that festive charm without overwhelming the room. But I love a little drama…So I set the entire tree on top of the side table.
It just fits!
Now the tree, while narrow, still has sweeping grandeur!
For a compact option, consider a miniature Christmas tree or tabletop tree—it’s perfect for a bedside table and adds holiday cheer without taking up too much room.
This is also a great time to use ornaments that complement the room’s color scheme for a classic holiday look. I’m using the green duvet as my starting point and adding creams, browns, and lighter shades of green for my color palette.
These beautiful velvet ornaments are my color inspiration. This is very much my daughter’s vibe and I know she will love it!
Twinkle Lights and Fairy Lights for Extra Magic
Nothing creates that holiday glow quite like twinkle lights and fairy lights. I strung lights along the chest of drawers and across the headboard to add a soft, warm glow to the room.
It’s one of those easy ways to make the space feel magical without too much effort. These lights make the room feel instantly cozier and more festive.
For an added touch, I placed a few LED candles around the room to mimic the flickering of real candlelight. It’s a safe and simple way to add ambiance to a guest room or your own bedroom.
If you’re decorating a guest bedroom for the Christmas season, adding some Christmas lights or fairy lights will ensure your guests feel welcomed into their cozy bedroom.
My favorite faux pillar candles are made by Luminara. They were a bit of a splurge for me but have been worth every penny. Gorgeous (and so realistic!)
Evergreen Garland and Natural Elements
I love adding natural elements like lush greenery to bring a fresh, organic touch to the bedroom.
I draped an evergreen garland over the headboard and added some sprigs of fresh cedar for that lovely, woodsy scent.
If you’re looking for simple Christmas bedroom décor ideas, incorporating greenery or birch logs is a great idea. It instantly gives the room a festive yet cozy vibe, perfect for the holiday season.
For an extra touch of Christmas cheer, you can add dried orange slices or pinecones to the garland. This adds a rustic, homemade feel to the decorations. You could also hang a small wreath over the bed or on the door for an additional holiday touch.
Even a very small tree or a few bottle brush trees are easy ways to bring that festive spirit into the room without taking up much space.
Festive Wall Art and Christmas Decorations
Transforming your bedroom into a festive escape doesn’t have to stop with the bedding and tree—Christmas decorations like wall art can add an extra layer of charm.
Traditional Christmas themes are great for bedroom wall art. But you can also consider winter landscapes or Christmas quotes.
Or, just add a little greenery to non-holiday artwork for instant Christmas spirit!
It’s a simple way to bring the Christmas spirit into the room without making it feel too cluttered.
I also added a few bottle brush trees on the shelves and dresser. These little touches are much fun and make the room feel decorated but not overwhelmed. They’re perfect for adding festive spirit without taking up too much space.
Cozy Accents and Holiday Cheer
Finally, adding little cozy accents is key to making any bedroom feel like a holiday retreat.
Along with the festive bedding and throw blanket, I placed a plush rug beside the bed. This not only adds warmth but also makes the room feel more inviting—perfect for relaxing after a long day of holiday fun.
Include one or more of these items to welcome your Christmas guests:
- A Christmas Welcome Basket – Include snacks, cocoa packets, and a mini holiday candle for extra charm.
- Seasonal Reading & Hallmark Christmas Movies – Place a few Christmas magazines, books, or a guide to Hallmark holiday movies on the bedside table.
- Mini Stocking with Treats – Hang a small stocking filled with chocolates or mints for a sweet surprise!
It’s a great way to make your guest room feel special during the holiday season. You could also add a small gift or a handwritten card to show your appreciation for their visit.
Cozy Christmas Decor
Adding Christmas home decor is a fun way to personalize the bedroom space and enhance any color scheme or theme that you are using.
These little details add that extra layer of holiday cheer and make your guests feel like they’re staying in a true holiday retreat.
Here are a few more simple Christmas bedroom decor ideas to bring cozy charm into the space:
- Holiday Scented Candles – Place a few pine, cinnamon, or peppermint-scented candles on the bedside table or dresser to create a welcoming aroma and warm glow.
- Ornament-Filled Lanterns – Fill small lanterns with ornaments that match your room’s color scheme and place them on the chest of drawers or windowsill.
- Festive Tray Decor – Style a tray with holiday accents like a snow globe, a sprig of greenery, and an ornament or two for a cozy, curated look on a bedside or accent table.
- Wrapped Presents – Stack a few wrapped faux presents at the end of the bed for a touch of holiday magic that adds color and charm.
- Seasonal Books & Magazines – Set out a few holiday-themed books or magazines for a relaxing touch that enhances the festive spirit of the room.
These easy ways to decorate will add a subtle, cozy feel to the bedroom, perfect for the Christmas season!
