2024 Christmas Home Tour

You might have just come from the blog Common Ground? Isn’t Debra’s home just gorgeous? I love seeing how everyone decorates for the season—it’s like a little peek into the heart of their holiday traditions.

That’s what makes Christmas home tours so fun! They’re a celebration of unique styles and festive ideas that inspire us to add even more joy to our own homes.

Today, I’m excited to share our eating spaces—the kitchen and dining room—because, let’s face it, food is what brings us together during the holidays! So step inside and let’s start in the kitchen, where all the delicious magic begins.

Holiday Home Tour in the Kitchen

The color palette for my Christmas kitchen started with a felt poinsettia that practically shouted, “Pick me!”

Its cheerful red, green, and white tones were too perfect to pass up—and they happen to tie in beautifully with my black and white kitchen. Cheerful and coordinated? Yes, please!

A red, white, and green poinsettia

Let’s start with the island because, let’s be honest, it’s the gathering spot in the kitchen no matter the season. Everything revolves around it, so I had to give it a starring role in my holiday decor.

I filled a favorite white hobnail vase with the colorful felt poinsettia and some festive red picks for extra flair. It’s bold, bright, and says, “This kitchen is ready for Christmas!”

Over at the sink, I’ve kept it simple but impactful with a classic green boxwood wreath hanging in the window—a little splash of nature to keep things grounded.

I love to decorate the glass front kitchen cabinets with small green wreaths hanging by classic red ribbons.

And then there are the bar stools, my neutral gray velvet beauties. They’re lovely on their own, but gray doesn’t exactly scream “festive,” does it?

To bring in some joyful color, each stool is dressed in a cozy plaid scarf with a pop of greenery tied with pink velvet ribbon.

And because I love a little surprise, each scarf tells its own color story. No matchy-matchy here—just a joyful mix that makes those bar stools feel like they’re ready to join the party!

A Cup of Christmas Cheer

In the corner of the kitchen, I’ve set up a hot cocoa tray full of yummy holiday cheer. It’s loaded with cheerful mugs—big enough for cocoa and an obscene amount of whipped cream (with sprinkles, of course).

Candy canes and wrapped chocolates add a festive touch, and for the grown-ups, there’s a bottle of cocoa cream liqueur because…hey, it’s the holidays!

The whole tray is ready to slide out at a moment’s notice for a spontaneous cocoa break!

A Canine Christmas Corner

Even our dog, Bentley, has his own little corner of Christmas cheer in the kitchen—though it didn’t come without some negotiation!

I started with a cute red stocking hung on the wall above his fancy chinoiserie dog dishes, complete with a bit of greenery tucked inside. Adorable, right?

Bentley thought so too… so much that he pulled it off the wall not once, not twice, but three times!

Apparently, stockings are for gnawing, not decorating.

After his third victory, I surrendered and swapped the stocking for a festive red ornament ball wreath. Thankfully, he’s shown zero interest in chewing that.

It’s now a truce: Bentley gets his stylish corner, and I get a decoration that stays put!

My Kitchen Holiday “Greenhouse”

For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of having my own greenhouse or She-shed—some peaceful spot where I can grow plants and escape into a little botanical retreat.

Unfortunately, our backyard doesn’t have the space for such a luxury, so I got creative and made my own little “greenhouse” corner right by the sunny window in the kitchen.

It’s become one of my favorite spots, with vibrant poinsettia plants, a fragrant lavender tree, and my very first attempt at growing Christmas amaryllis and narcissus.

So far, so good! The bulbs are sprouting, and the narcissus is already blooming—talk about a Christmas miracle!

To make it even more fun, I’ve tucked two tabletop open-air greenhouses into the display. One I bought years ago, and the other I crafted myself using photo frames—because who says you can’t have greenhouses within your greenhouse?

It’s my little holiday escape right in the heart of the kitchen!

Christmas Plants to Grow Indoors for a Greenhouse Effect

  • Poinsettias – A holiday classic with vibrant red, pink, or white blooms.
Amaryllis – These dramatic flowers with tall stems and large blooms make a striking holiday statement.
Christmas Cactus – This easy-care plant adds charm to any windowsill.
  • Paperwhite Narcissus – Fragrant white flowers that bring spring vibes into your winter home.
Lavender – Lavender can thrive indoors and offers a lovely fragrance and touch of green.
Norfolk Island Pine – A mini Christmas tree alternative!

Christmas Kitchen Magic

From baking batches of cookies to serving up Christmas morning quiche, this kitchen truly becomes the heart of our holiday celebrations. There’s something about the festive colors, cozy touches, and joyful energy that makes it one of my favorite places to be during the season.

It’s where the magic happens—whether it’s a quiet moment with a cup of cocoa or a busy afternoon of holiday meal prep.

A Festive Feast: Christmas Cheer in the Dining Room

The dining room flows right from the kitchen, creating one big, open space that’s perfect for eating and entertaining during the holidays.

With both rooms decorated in festive, colorful touches, they come together as a cheerful and inviting setting for family meals, holiday gatherings, and cozy celebrations. Let’s take a peek at how I’ve dressed up the dining room for the season and added a little extra sparkle to our holiday meals!

This is my “More is More” room and feeds my maximalist side!

While the dining table is the focal point of the room, at Christmas time, all eyes go to the upside-down Christmas tree. You can learn all about the history of upside-down Christmas trees and how to decorate them HERE.

One of my favorite projects this season was creating this Anthropologie-inspired alpine village Christmas wreath. Displayed between the room’s window, I added various bottle brush trees to the table below to create a little alpine forest.

Festive Christmas Dining

On to the dining table!

For a seasonal centerpiece, I gathered a few more trees and nestled them among some greenery between two gold circle sculptures that normally live in the living room.

This year, I added a new favorite to my holiday table setting—these adorable salad plates with red berries on them.

I love their irregular shape and how the vibrant berries pop against the white background. They’re perfect for the season and I’m excited to slowly build a collection around them each year.

To keep things from getting too formal, I opted for woven rattan charger mats, which add a bit of warmth and texture. I also used black and white checked cloth napkins, wrapped with tiny green wreaths and rustic gold bells for a playful touch.

And for a little extra sparkle, I found blush pink goblets at a thrift store, which add just the right amount of glassy elegance to the table without stealing the show.

Decorating Tip: When building a Christmas dinnerware collection, look for pieces that can easily mix and match with what you already have. Focus on colors and patterns that can work across different holiday themes or even through the seasons. Salad plates, like these berry-themed ones, are a great way to start—small enough to add a pop of festive color but versatile enough to be used year after year. Don’t be afraid to layer in new pieces each season to create a collection that evolves over time while staying fresh and exciting!

Holiday Cheers: The Festive Bar Cart

I decided to go all out this year with my bar cart and embrace layers of bold red for a festive, over-the-top look.

The shiny red disk picks add a pop of textured drama against the coral-red wallpaper, creating the perfect backdrop for the holiday decor.

I kept it festive with lush greenery, red berries, and a simple velvet ribbon tied around the decanter for a touch of elegance.

Pink ornaments near the mule mugs add a playful, unexpected twist, while a glass kissing ball dangles just below the coupe glasses, adding a whimsical, romantic feel.

It’s a cheerful corner that’s ready to serve up some holiday cheer!

What are some fun ways to personalize holiday bar carts?

One way is to add personal touches like custom drink stirrers, holiday-themed napkins, or even your favorite seasonal cocktail recipe displayed on a cute sign. Adding something unique to your taste or tradition really makes it feel special.

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a peek inside our holiday home tour! I hope this colorful and festive tour has inspired you to try a little more vibrant color in your own Christmas decorating.

After all, nothing says “celebration” like a splash of red, green, and a little sparkle!

Now, be sure to continue the holiday fun and head over to Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home to see her beautiful Christmas holiday home tour!

And before you go, take one last look at the dining room centerpiece—if you can spot Bentley’s face peeking through the middle, you win! (It’s like a little holiday “Where’s Waldo?” moment.)
